How to read this table

Intro $/mo is the advertised monthly-equivalent of the longest plans — you pay the "billed upfront" amount in one charge. Renews at is the price of year two, where VPN pricing makes its money; "n/d" means the vendor does not disclose it on the pricing page. All prices come from official vendor pages (no gray-market resellers) and we re-verify them — the date is in the header above.

These are the prices each vendor quotes on its US or EU site. VPN companies set genuinely different prices per country — not converted ones — so we do not translate anything into your local currency. A converted figure would be a number no vendor will ever charge you. Open a provider's own page to see what they quote where you are.

No sponsored placements: the table sorts by our editorial Scout Score, not by commission.

How much does a VPN cost?

How much does a VPN cost per month?

Across the 23 providers whose pricing we verified on their own pages, the cheapest long-term plan works out to $1.59 a month and the median is $3.00. Paying month-to-month instead costs a median of $11.95 — that gap, not the headline discount, is what the long plans are really selling.

Why is the second year more expensive?

Because the advertised price is an introductory rate. Of the plans where the vendor discloses a renewal price, the median renewal is 3.0× the intro price, and the steepest in our table rises 3.4×. 13 of the providers we track do not publish a renewal price at all — those show "n/d" in the table.

Is the cheapest VPN the best value?

Not automatically. The cheapest intro price in this table is $1.59 a month, but that number ignores what it renews at, how many devices it covers and where the company is legally based. The table sorts by our editorial Scout Score rather than by price, so the cheapest row is rarely the top row.
